About the role
The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs is seeking a consultant to support the Data for Now initiative. The role focuses on building statistical capacity in selected countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America, helping national statistical offices produce timely, disaggregated data for the 2030 Agenda.
Key responsibilities
- Develop a detailed work plan with outputs and timelines in coordination with the UNSD team.
- Engage with at least two project countries, providing technical support and facilitating workshops and trainings.
- Produce monthly progress reports, draft guidance documents, and a final comprehensive report.
- Contribute to methodological work on themes such as poverty, environment, gender and disability, and develop tools and guidance materials.
- Support communication, outreach, and donor reporting activities.
Required profile
- Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in statistics, economics, development studies or related field, or a Bachelor’s with 12 years experience.
- Minimum ten years of progressive experience in social sciences, including statistics or economics.
- At least five years of experience working with national statistical offices on capacity development, guidance and training.
- Strong knowledge of statistical production, non‑traditional data sources, metadata development and quality management.
- Familiarity with the Sustainable Development Goals and national implementation efforts.
