Field Engineer/Geologist Internship in Salt Lake City

About the role

The Field Engineer/Geologist Intern will support geotechnical and geophysical site investigations for infrastructure, construction, and mining projects across the Intermountain Western US. Working alongside experienced engineers and geologists, you will gain hands‑on experience operating specialized field equipment and handling data collection.

Key responsibilities

• Operate CPTu, VST, sampling systems, and various geophysical instruments on field sites.
• Assist with safe, efficient deployment of equipment and ensure accurate data acquisition.
• Collect, process, and submit field data for project reporting.
• Travel frequently to job sites, often for 7‑14 day periods, and adapt to changing project demands.
• Collaborate with engineers, geologists, and equipment operators to support project execution.

Required profile

• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication abilities.
• Problem‑solving mindset and willingness to work in diverse field environments.
• Ability to travel extensively and stay on‑site for extended periods.
• Interest in soil mechanics, in‑situ testing, and geophysical field investigations.
