Field Application Engineer – High Speed Interconnects

About the role

As a Field Application Engineer focused on high‑speed optical interconnects, you will act as the technical bridge between 3M and its customers, helping them design, evaluate and implement cutting‑edge fiber‑optic and copper solutions for data‑center and networking applications.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary technical interface for optical interconnect solutions, emphasizing optical fiber technologies and expanded‑beam optics.
• Support customer design‑in activities for fiber‑optic connectivity, optical transport and high‑speed communication systems.
• Provide technical consultation to customers, sales teams and channel partners on product selection, system integration and performance optimisation.
• Lead technical discussions, product demonstrations, evaluations and troubleshooting for optical and copper interconnect applications.
• Develop test plans, analyse results and validate that customer requirements are met.
• Assist customers in resolving field and application issues through hands‑on problem solving and cross‑functional coordination.
• Contribute to technical documentation, application notes, presentations and training materials.
• Monitor industry trends, competitive technologies and emerging standards in optical fiber interconnects.

Required profile

• Strong technical background in optical and high‑speed data communication technologies.
• Experience supporting customer design‑in and qualification activities.
• Ability to communicate complex technical information to diverse audiences.
• Proven capability to work collaboratively with product development, R&D, manufacturing, quality and marketing teams.
