Federal College Work Study – Community Service (Laredo Main Street)

About the role

This Federal College Work‑Study position supports Laredo Main Street’s mission to revitalize downtown Laredo through community events and vendor coordination. As a student worker, you will gain hands‑on experience in public service while applying classroom knowledge to real‑world projects.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in planning, setting up, and coordinating Farmers Market events.
• Communicate event details to vendors and organize vendor placement.
• Support day‑of operations, helping vendors and attendees as needed.
• Promote events via social media, outreach, and community engagement.
• Answer phone calls, manage emails, and respond to general inquiries.
• Maintain organized files, records, vendor information, and event materials.
• Schedule meetings and prepare materials for events and presentations.
• Monitor office supplies and process supply requests.
• Update the Laredo Main Street website with current events, programs, and news.
• Review the website for outdated information or technical issues.
• Assist staff with additional administrative and event‑related duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Enrolled at least half‑time (minimum 6 credit hours per semester).
• Strong communication and customer‑service abilities.
• Professional demeanor when interacting with vendors, staff, and community members.
• Ability to follow instructions, meet deadlines, and manage multiple responsibilities.
• Willingness to assist with event setup and community activities.

Required skills

• Basic computer skills, including email and Microsoft Office applications.
• Basic knowledge of social media platforms.
• Experience updating website content.
