Family Navigation Coordinator

About the role

The Family Navigation Coordinator supports IRC clients in building stability, removing barriers, and achieving long‑term self‑sufficiency. Working closely with IRC programs and external partners, the coordinator ensures clients have the knowledge and resources needed to thrive in their community.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and maintain a resource list for free or low‑cost primary, specialty, dental, prescription, and mental health care.
• Provide tailored referrals and coordinate initial health screenings and school enrollment appointments.
• Adapt culturally appropriate health education materials and deliver workshops with AmeriCorps, interns, and volunteers.
• Maintain and strengthen partnerships with internal and external agencies, attending meetings and representing IRC.
• Enter data in compliance with IRC standards and grant requirements, and document activities accurately.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience.
• 2–3 years of professional experience in human services, health navigation, education, or nonprofit programming; experience with immigrant and refugee populations preferred.
• Knowledge of Virginia and U.S. public benefits, health, or school systems is strongly preferred.
• Fluent English with proficiency in Spanish, Dari, Farsi, or Pashto desired.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Strong internet research and digital data‑entry capabilities.
