Environmental Scientist

About the role

The Environmental Scientist will support regulatory compliance projects at White Sands Missile Range, NM, ensuring adherence to EPA, NMED, and federal environmental regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with hazardous waste, universal waste and used oil regulations (RCRA, SDWA, CAA).
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers and hazardous‑waste technicians to resolve environmental issues.
• Review waste characterization data and apply EPA hazardous waste identification codes.
• Conduct sampling of soil, water and air, assist with data interpretation and prepare technical reports.
• Communicate scientific and regulatory information through briefings, written documents and meetings.
• Evaluate laboratory data, draw conclusions and make recommendations under the guidance of the Project Manager.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related field, or technical training with 5 years of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of RCRA permit compliance, waste characterization and hazardous‑waste determinations.
• Ability to work accurately, meet timelines, handle multiple priorities and operate with minimal supervision.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and a commitment to health and safety.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word.
