Environmental Compliance Specialist Team Lead – Drinking Water

About the role

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division is seeking a Team Lead for the Drinking Water Unit. This position oversees sanitary survey commitments, responds to public water‑quality complaints, and coordinates boil‑water advisories across the state.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the Public Water System Supervision (PWSS) grant and ensure completion of required sanitary surveys.
• Conduct comprehensive inspections of complex drinking‑water treatment plants, including surface‑water sources.
• Supervise two staff members, handling performance planning and evaluations.
• Document inspections in electronic databases and written reports; draft enforcement documents when needed.
• Provide technical assistance to water systems and respond to drinking‑water emergencies.
• Collaborate with other EPD units, state agencies, and federal partners.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, physics, geology, engineering, or a closely related field.
• At least four years of professional experience in environmental protection.
• Ability to travel statewide and work in physically demanding field conditions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with the public and regulatory bodies.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Experience using electronic databases for inspection reporting.
• Technical knowledge of water‑treatment processes and relevant regulations.
