Entry Level Background Investigator - Midwest

About the role

CACI, a provider of federal background investigations since 2004, is hiring an entry-level background investigator for its Midwest office in Rapid City, South Dakota. The role is full time, regular, and requires a Top Secret clearance to start. It involves conducting comprehensive background investigations and resolving material issues in cases.

Key responsibilities

• Use technology, electronic tools and multiple systems at once to interview subjects, employers, associates, references and other knowledgeable people, and to review records and obtain facts.
• Resolve all material issues in a case to establish the background, reputation, character, suitability or qualifications of the subject.
• Conduct interviews by Virtual Teleconference (the primary method), phone and in-person meetings.
• Attend a multi-week intensive virtual online training with shadowing and mentorship from an experienced investigator.
• Travel up to 10% locally, depending on the assignment, and attend temporary duty assignments across the U.S., typically lasting two weeks.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or four years of general experience showing progressive responsibility in problem solving, planning and organizing, and effective oral and written communication.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a favorable T5 investigation determination.
• Strong sense of mission supporting national security initiatives, and impeccable work ethic and integrity.
• Current driver's license, reliable personal vehicle and home office within reasonable distance of the workload area, with high-speed internet (a $50 monthly internet stipend is provided).
• Ability to sit, type, stand or walk for long periods, and excellent time management and prioritization skills.

• Excellent written and oral communication, including presenting clearly and handling sensitive information tactfully.
• Correct English grammar, punctuation and spelling, and clear, organized written communication.

Nice to have: active Top Secret clearance based on a T5. The position is contingent on funding and may not be filled immediately; applicants may also be considered for other CACI positions. The pay range is set by the Service Contract Act wage determination, with a minimum hourly wage of $26.07.
