Engineering Technician V – Mechanical Utilities Maintenance

About the role

The Engineering Technician V will support the National Ignition Facility (NIF) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, performing installation, maintenance, operation, and modification of complex mechanical and utility systems.

Key responsibilities

• Install and maintain typical and non‑typical equipment according to drawings, safety codes, and as‑built configurations.
• Plan and execute mechanical inspections, corrective and preventive maintenance, and utility outage work.
• Operate test equipment (voltmeters, ohmmeters) and control systems for specialty air and process utilities.
• Prepare logs and reports, ensure compliance with ES&H regulations, and participate in quarterly outages.

Required profile

• A.A. in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent experience.
• Hands‑on experience with facility installation, operations, maintenance, and repair.
• Ability to work in clean rooms, confined spaces, elevated platforms, and controlled radiological areas.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain Q‑level DOE clearance.

Required skills

• Mechanical installation and preventive maintenance.
• Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
• Use of CMMS and basic rigging and scaffolding.
• Operation of voltmeters, ohmmeters, and other test equipment.
• Control system operation for specialty air and utility systems.
