Engineering Leader, Platform Engineering

About the role

ClassDojo is looking for an Engineering Leader to own the Platform engineering org end‑to‑end for infrastructure, data, developer experience, and AI tooling. This manager‑of‑managers role will set platform practices, make build‑vs‑buy decisions, and shape the technical roadmap for the entire engineering organization.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a multi‑team Platform organization and own its company‑level objectives.
• Translate company priorities and product‑engineering needs into a platform roadmap.
• Make build‑vs‑buy and architecture‑level trade‑offs across infrastructure, data, developer experience, and AI tooling.
• Represent Platform in cross‑functional leadership conversations and partner with product engineering leads.
• Develop and coach engineering managers, raising their performance bar.
• Drive AI‑native development aligned with ClassDojo’s engineering practices.
• Own SLAs/SLOs, incident response, and reliability trade‑offs for the platform surface.

Required profile

• 2+ years managing managers, with direct reports who were themselves people managers.
• 10+ years total in technical roles, with a strong individual‑contributor background.
• Owned a platform, infrastructure, data, or developer‑productivity area delivering measurable outcomes.
• Built platform engineering practices across multiple teams and earned adoption.
• Hired, developed, and managed engineering managers.
• Comfortable making and defending build‑vs‑buy and architecture trade‑offs.
