Energy Commercial Transactions Associate/Counsel (Mid‑Senior)

About the role

Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is seeking a mid‑to‑senior associate or counsel to join its nationally recognized energy practice. The role will support developers, technology firms, utilities and investors on complex energy commercial transactions, with a focus on data‑center energy work, renewable projects and battery storage.

Key responsibilities

• Draft and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including energy supply, development, procurement and operational contracts.
• Support transactions involving energy project development, financing, acquisitions and asset sales.
• Advise on renewable energy credit (REC) transactions and wholesale/retail energy market matters.
• Counsel clients on renewable energy, distributed resources, storage, transmission, demand response, energy efficiency and decarbonization initiatives.
• Collaborate across practice groups on energy transition, infrastructure, environmental, technology and commercial matters.

Required profile

• JD from an accredited law school and admission to practice in California.
• 3+ years of relevant experience in energy transactions or a strong commercial transaction background with a demonstrated interest in energy.
• Strong drafting, negotiating, legal research, writing and analytical skills.
• Familiarity with state and federal energy regulatory frameworks, utility operations or renewable energy development.
• Ability to manage multiple complex matters in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment.
