Elevator Inspector – Ithaca, NY

About the role

Conducts trade‑specific inspections on elevators, escalators, mechanized walkways and other lift equipment to ensure compliance with applicable codes, drawings, specifications and contract documents.

Key responsibilities

• Perform code and quality‑control inspections on various phases of elevator and lift equipment.
• Detect defects or faults in installations, maintenance or operation and recommend remedial measures per jurisdictional requirements.
• Read and interpret equipment operation plans, schematics and installation instructions.
• Use standard testing devices and methods to verify equipment meets established performance criteria.
• Coordinate schedules with service companies and technicians to maximize operational efficiency while ensuring safety.

Required profile

• Current QEI (Qualified Elevator Inspector) certification or five years of elevator industry experience; engineering education may substitute for two years of experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of elevator, escalator and moving‑walk construction, repair practices and relevant mechanical/electrical principles.
• Familiarity with the American National Standard Safety Code for Elevators and related jurisdictional requirements.

Required skills

• QEI certification or equivalent qualification.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematic drawings and code documents.
• Proficiency with standard testing equipment for lift systems.
• Knowledge of elevator safety codes and standards.
• Competence in MS Office, Excel and Access applications.
