Electrician - Seasonal Antarctic Contract

About the role

Amentum is hiring a seasonal contract electrician to support the National Science Foundation's United States Antarctic Program as part of the Antarctic Support Contract. Electricians perform electrical maintenance or construction work, or both, under the supervision of the Electrician Foreman, PM Coordinator or Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, with tasking based on prior experience and the ASC schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Install, maintain, adjust, operate, test and repair branch circuits, power distribution wiring, electrical equipment, fixtures, lighting systems and conduit in compliance with the NEC
• Diagnose and repair electrical systems and perform scheduled preventative maintenance
• Install fixtures, wiring conduits, motors and other electrical equipment, and inspect transformers and circuit breakers
• Work from schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, vendor manuals and electrical specifications, and respond to emergency service calls inside and outside normal hours
• Document hours worked, tasking, materials and processes, and prepare work plans, job hazard and safety analyses and code-required forms
• Follow SOPs, participate in the Work Center Safety Program and comply with ESH, waste management and quality assurance requirements
• Perform tasking outdoors in extreme cold and wind, and lift and move equipment and climb in and out of equipment

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Current Journeyman or Master Electrician license, or equivalent union membership in good standing; a Journeyman license under 8,000 hours or residential type is not accepted
• At least 4 years (8,000 hours) of documented electrical experience including rough-in, trim-out, conduit and power distribution wiring up to 480V
• Medical, dental, drug screening, background checks and federal background check clearances; US citizenship required for facility credentials at the site
• Willingness to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods and to join community programs

Required skills

• Thorough knowledge of the NEC and electrical safety (NFPA 70E, OSHA)
• Reading and interpreting drawings, specifications and troubleshooting guides
• Proficiency with electrical test equipment, meters, scopes and probes, and LOTO procedures
• Computer experience and willingness to learn labor, inventory and maintenance tracking software
• Preferred: NFPA 70E training, UPS, motor control and VFD experience, Maximo, airfield runway lighting, fire alarm systems, and Microsoft Office
