EHS Specialist (Chemical and Lab)

About the role

The University of Miami seeks an EHS Specialist to support compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations across research, healthcare, and teaching laboratories. The role provides technical expertise, develops safety programs, and ensures a safe environment for faculty, staff, and students.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee EHS programs such as Laser Safety, Biological Safety, and Hazardous Materials under limited supervision.
• Conduct comprehensive EHS evaluations, approve control measures, and implement alternate controls when needed.
• Deliver EHS education and training to university personnel exposed to hazardous agents.
• Perform regular EHS audits and inspections in line with current regulations.
• Investigate campus accidents, develop corrective action plans, and track their implementation.
• Participate in emergency response for incidents involving hazardous materials.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of EHS regulations and best practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Minimum of 1 year of relevant EHS experience.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to analyze problems, exercise sound judgment, and make critical decisions.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
