About the role
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a Summer 2026 Early Childhood Education Intern to support its Education & Youth Services program in Louisville, KY. This unpaid position provides hands‑on experience assisting refugee and immigrant families as they navigate pre‑K and kindergarten enrollment and access community early‑childhood resources.
Key responsibilities
- Assist IRC staff with pre‑K and kindergarten enrollment processes for refugee families.
- Contact parents to confirm class attendance and address scheduling needs.
- Help clients overcome barriers such as transportation and language to access education services.
- Communicate with local school districts and early‑childhood providers to connect families with appropriate programs.
- Collect and interpret data to support educational initiatives and track student progress.
- Support the planning and implementation of parent education classes and resource collections.
Required profile
- Strong commitment to equity and dignity for all clients.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced nonprofit environment.
- Interest in early childhood education, refugee resettlement, and community outreach.
Required skills
- No specific technical skills required; willingness to learn and adapt.
