E-coat Process Engineer I

About the role

BASF’s Coatings division is seeking an E‑coat Process Engineer I to join its Coatings Research Center in Southfield, Michigan. The role involves providing technical service, supporting customers, and driving continuous improvement for electrocoat products across North America.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver technical support and customer service for electrocoat products, working independently and on‑site at customer facilities.
• Formulate, produce, and test electrocoat samples to meet internal and customer specifications.
• Travel up to 50% across the US, Canada, and Mexico to resolve customer issues and adjust processes.
• Collaborate with internal departments and external customers on system design, process optimization, technology conversion, and product launches.
• Develop reproducible test methods, design experiments, and implement corrective actions in manufacturing.
• Assist internal and customer sites with performance evaluations and provide technical direction.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5‑7 years of experience in electrocoat chemistry or process engineering, or 7+ years with a high‑school diploma.
• Proven ability to work in a high‑pressure environment and meet demanding timelines.
• Strong analytical skills for root‑cause analysis and corrective‑action planning.
