About the role

The Director of Study Abroad and Distinguished Scholars leads West Texas A&M University’s international and scholarship initiatives, advising students on study‑abroad options, distinguished scholarship programs, and the Texas Leadership Scholars program. This senior position shapes strategic outreach, program development, and partnership building to enhance global learning experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Provide visionary, strategic leadership for study‑abroad, distinguished scholar, and Texas Leadership Scholar programs.
• Develop and execute annual strategic plans, learning outcomes, and departmental procedures.
• Build and maintain partnerships with academic colleges, alumni, employers, student organizations, and external agencies.
• Prepare, administer, and monitor departmental budgets in compliance with university policies.
• Conduct program evaluations, collect statistical data, and use insights to expand services.
• Design and implement marketing and communication campaigns to promote programs.
• Supervise graduate assistants and student workers, overseeing hiring, performance evaluation, and professional development.
• Participate in division, departmental, and committee meetings as required.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in higher‑education program administration.
• Strong background in study‑abroad and scholarship program development.
• Excellent strategic planning, budgeting, and data‑analysis capabilities.
• Demonstrated ability to forge collaborative relationships across campus and external partners.
• Effective communication and marketing skills to engage diverse audiences.
