About the role
Cornerstone Support Services, Inc. is seeking an experienced Director of Finance to lead day‑to‑day accounting and financial operations for its growing nonprofit organization. The role reports functionally to the Fractional CFO and works closely with senior leadership.
Key responsibilities
- Lead accounting operations, including general ledger oversight, reconciliations, month‑end and year‑end close, and financial reporting.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, forecasts, cash‑flow information, and management reports.
- Evaluate accounting, billing, payroll, purchasing, and reconciliation processes for accuracy, efficiency, scalability, and internal control.
- Identify recurring financial issues, determine root causes, and present practical recommendations for improvement.
- Oversee corporate card and expense‑management processes, including coding, receipts, approvals, permissions, reconciliations, and purchasing controls.
- Monitor Medicaid revenue, billing, accounts receivable, and related reconciliations.
- Coordinate budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and analysis.
- Support external audits, tax reporting, Form 990 preparation, and regulatory compliance.
- Develop and maintain strong internal controls and appropriate segregation of duties.
- Supervise and develop finance staff, establishing clear accountability for financial responsibilities.
- Participate in evaluation, selection, and implementation of future accounting and financial systems.
Required profile
- One or more accounting degrees or closely related fields of study.
- Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, month‑end close, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
- Experience supervising and developing accounting or finance staff.
- High standards of accuracy, integrity, accountability, and confidentiality.
- Ability to communicate complex financial matters clearly to non‑financial leaders.
Required skills
- Hands‑on experience with QuickBooks Desktop.
- Experience managing corporate credit cards and expense‑management systems.
- Proficiency in evaluating financial processes and implementing system and workflow improvements.
- Familiarity with Medicaid‑funded service billing and revenue monitoring.
- Experience with accounting system selection and implementation.
