Director of Academic Advising

About the role

We are seeking a Director of Academic Advising to lead the advising, retention, and graduation initiatives for undergraduate and graduate students within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M AgriLife. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the director will shape the college’s advising strategy and ensure high‑quality support for student success.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and enforce academic advising standards across the college.
• Oversee all advising centers, supervising lead advisors and senior academic advisors.
• Lead hiring, onboarding, and professional development for advising staff.
• Coordinate new‑student conferences and collaborate with the Director of Student Success on student‑success objectives.
• Track and report advising metrics each semester, focusing on retention and graduation rates.
• Streamline undergraduate and graduate advising processes in partnership with the associate dean and advisors.
• Implement best practices and professional standards for advising, retention, and graduation.
• Foster collaborative relationships with college leadership and other student‑support units.

Required profile

• Proven experience in academic advising leadership within a higher‑education setting.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple advising teams and drive student‑success outcomes.
• Strong understanding of undergraduate and graduate advising policies and procedures.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with faculty, staff, and students.
• Experience with data‑driven decision making and outcome tracking.
