About the role
The Director of Commercial Credit Review leads the bank’s independent credit review function for its commercial loan portfolio, covering commercial real estate and specialty credits. Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer and with a dotted line to the Board’s Risk Committee, the role provides objective, risk‑focused assessments of credit quality, underwriting practices, and regulatory compliance.
Key responsibilities
- Design, maintain, and execute an annual risk‑based credit review plan for a $5–10 billion institution.
- Develop review scope, sample selection methodology, and coverage thresholds aligned with Interagency Guidance.
- Produce clear, timely written reports for executive management, the CRO, and the Board’s Risk Committee.
- Lead targeted loan‑level reviews assessing underwriting quality, collateral, documentation, and covenant monitoring.
- Validate risk‑rating accuracy and consistency across the commercial portfolio.
- Champion responsible AI and automation adoption to improve sample coverage, turnaround time, and exception identification.
Required profile
- Extensive experience in commercial credit review, risk management, and regulatory compliance within a large banking institution.
- Proven ability to lead independent review functions and influence senior leadership.
- Strong analytical mindset with a focus on objective, data‑driven assessments.
- Experience collaborating with CRO, CCO, ERM, Information Security, Internal Audit, and IT teams.
