Design Drafter – Mechanical Designer

About the role

North Wind Services is seeking a Design Drafter – Mechanical Designer to support Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) on advanced engineering projects. The role involves creating detailed mechanical designs, drawings, and documentation for high‑vacuum, precision optomechanical systems and other hardware.

Key responsibilities

• Develop detailed designs, 3D CAD models, and drawing packages for mechanical hardware and sensor systems using PTC Creo.
• Perform tolerance stack‑up and interference analyses, generate fabrication, assembly, and installation drawings, and produce design reviews and status reports.
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and technicians to formulate technical solutions and make independent design decisions.

Required profile

• AS degree or equivalent experience in mechanical engineering; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience with full project life‑cycle from concept through fabrication and testing.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain Q‑level DOE clearance.

Required skills

• Advanced 3D CAD modeling with PTC Creo.
• Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.
• Pro‑E/Creo Simulate for FEA and thermal analysis.
• Use of PTC Windchill for data management.
• Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
