About the role

Southeastern Louisiana University’s College of Science and Technology seeks a visionary leader to serve as Department Head of Biological Sciences. This 12‑month, non‑term‑limited appointment oversees curriculum development, research initiatives, faculty recruitment, and budget management for a department serving over 650 undergraduates and graduate students.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for academic planning, curriculum design, and assessment of student learning outcomes.
• Manage the department’s budget, develop budget requests, and allocate resources to support teaching, research, and operations.
• Lead faculty development, recruitment, evaluation, and promotion processes.
• Champion research growth, pursue interdisciplinary collaborations, and secure external funding.
• Oversee course scheduling, program reviews, and the addition or removal of concentrations.
• Represent the department in university committees, public outreach, and community engagement.

Required profile

• Doctorate in a Biological Sciences discipline and credentials for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
• Demonstrated success in academic administration, budget management, and faculty leadership.
• Strong record of research and teaching excellence with experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive environment and supporting diverse faculty, staff, and student populations.
