DC Transportation Area Supervisor

About the role

The Home Depot is looking for a DC Transportation Area Supervisor to lead an hourly team and influence the entire distribution team so that the distribution center runs efficiently, safely and productively. The supervisor manages the team members under their supervision, ensures prompt, efficient and accurate handling of merchandise, develops and implements team goals, and handles hiring, evaluation, development, discipline and termination of hourly associates. The role covers about 20 to 30 hourly associates and reports to the Operations Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Manage transportation functions within budgetary cost goals, operating standards and performance metrics, including the dedicated fleet and one-way carriers, store delivery routes and yard management
• Analyze service-to-store results and Voice of Customer results, and partner with the Operations Manager or AGM to improve efficiency
• Coaching and developing associates: guide them in daily operations, train and evaluate them, resolve relations issues, and handle hiring, compensation, discipline and termination
• Investigate operational errors and recommend corrective action
• Drive results: manage on-time service to stores, trailer cube utilization and financial goals, review metric reporting and keep transportation projects on track
• Business planning: coordinate the transportation plan so key metrics match the business plan, including budget and on-time delivery
• Other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager, Assistant General Manager and General Manager

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States
• High school diploma or GED
• Preferred: bachelor's degree in supply chain or a related field, 3+ years of supervisory experience, experience managing a dedicated fleet, flexibility to work various shifts and ability to relocate
• Travel typically less than 10% overnight; intermittent periods of continuous physical exertion such as lifting material or equipment
