Data Scientist

About the role

Polco is seeking a Data Scientist to generate advanced insights for over 400 US local governments, impacting more than 36 million Americans. The role blends descriptive, predictive, and causal analytics on large, cloud‑based datasets.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and run recurring data processes, including data ingestion, cleaning, weighting, benchmarking, and model updates.
• Build and improve statistical and predictive models, adapting them as business needs evolve.
• Lead advanced client analytics projects, including impact and causal‑inference studies, and present findings to stakeholders.
• Partner with Engineering to automate workflows and make AI tools accessible across the company.
• Collaborate with Marketing, Sales, Customer Success, and Survey Research on internal analytics such as renewal models.
• Document work clearly to ensure reproducibility and contribute to internal reporting tools.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (statistics, data science, economics, etc.) or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of applied industry experience in data science or quantitative analysis.
• Strong statistical foundation with interest in causal inference and model building.
• Ability to work in ambiguity, manage multiple projects, and thrive in a fast‑paced startup environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Working knowledge of R.
• Experience with cloud data platforms such as Snowflake.
• Familiarity with agentic AI tools (e.g., Claude, Codex) for orchestrating analyses.
