Data Engineer – Federal Law Enforcement

About the role

Thomson Reuters Special Services (TRSS) is seeking a Data Engineer to work on‑site with Federal Law Enforcement agencies in Burlington, VT. You will help collect, integrate, transform, and analyze large, sensitive data sets that support investigations ranging from money laundering to transnational crime.

Key responsibilities

• Load, transform, extract, share, and replicate data from diverse sources.
• Implement security controls such as access control, data masking, and encryption.
• Design and maintain data models and ontologies across heterogeneous warehouses.
• Develop ETL pipelines using Python, Java, or similar languages.
• Write complex SQL queries and optimise performance in cloud platforms (Snowflake, AWS, Azure).
• Collaborate directly with customers to translate requirements into actionable project plans.

Required profile

• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a security clearance.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical field.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant data engineering experience.
• Experience handling sensitive or regulated data in compliance with policy.
• Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

• Data loading, transformation, extraction, sharing, replication.
• Security features: access control, data masking, encryption.
• Data modeling and ontology development.
• Programming: Python, Java (or similar) for ETL scripting.
• SQL with complex query writing and performance tuning.
• Cloud environments: Snowflake, AWS, Azure.
• Familiarity with formal SDLC processes.
