Custodian 2 (Night Shift)

About the role

The Custodian 2 (Night Shift) is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the LSU Student Union facility during evening hours. The role requires moving throughout a 305,000‑square‑foot building multiple times each night to ensure all public and administrative areas are spotless and ready for the next day.

Key responsibilities

• Clean lobbies, bathrooms, hallways, meeting rooms, billiards area, and administrative spaces by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting, and polishing.
• Prepare and break down daily events in ballrooms, meeting rooms, lobbies, and exterior grounds.
• Strip, wax, and polish floors using industrial‑size mops and commercial floor machines, maintaining proper solution concentrations.
• Operate wet‑dry vacuum carpet extraction equipment, clean and recharge floor machines, and maintain industrial mops and pads.
• Empty interior and exterior trash and recycling containers, transport waste, and decontaminate containers according to label directions.
• Perform additional duties assigned by Building Services supervisors or managers.

Required profile

• At least six months of experience in custodial, housekeeping, grounds‑keeping, or food‑service work.
• Availability to work Sunday through Thursday evenings, 3 pm – 11:30 pm.
• Successful completion of a pre‑employment background check and physical examination.
• Ability to move throughout a large facility repeatedly during a shift.

Required skills

• Mixing and blending cleaning solutions to proper concentrations.
• Operating industrial floor machines for stripping, waxing, and polishing.
• Using wet‑dry vacuum carpet extraction equipment.
• Handling and maintaining commercial cleaning equipment and industrial‑size mops.
