Night Shift Custodian – LSU Student Union

About the role

This full‑time night‑shift custodial position is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the 305,000‑sq‑ft LSU Student Union. The role involves moving throughout the building multiple times each night to ensure all public and support areas are spotless and ready for the next day.

Key responsibilities

• Clean lobbies, bathrooms, hallways, meeting rooms, billiards area and administrative spaces by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting and polishing.
• Prepare and break down daily events in ballrooms, meeting rooms, lobbies and exterior grounds.
• Strip, wax and polish floors using industrial‑size mops and commercial floor machines; mix and refill cleaning solutions.
• Operate wet‑dry vacuum carpet‑extraction equipment, clean and maintain floor machines, and recharge batteries.
• Empty interior and exterior trash and recycling containers, transport waste, and decontaminate containers.
• Perform additional duties assigned by Building Services supervisors.

Required profile

• At least six months of experience in custodial, housekeeping, grounds‑keeping or food‑service work.
• Availability to work Sunday through Thursday evenings, 3 pm – 11:30 pm.
• Successful completion of a pre‑employment background check and physical examination.
• Ability to move throughout a large facility repeatedly during a shift.

Required skills

• Operation of industrial floor machines (strip, wax, polish).
• Use of wet‑dry vacuum carpet‑extraction equipment.
• Mixing and handling of cleaning solutions at proper concentrations.
• Basic maintenance of commercial cleaning equipment.
