Cultural Resources Technician

About the role

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking Cultural Resources Technicians to support archaeological and cultural resource management projects across the Southeast United States. The position is a temporary, field‑based assignment expected to run through April 2027, with travel up to 100% of the time.

Key responsibilities

• Perform complete archaeological surveying and field testing.
• Conduct shovel test pits and excavation units.
• Execute data recovery and associated field recording.
• Complete field forms, digital photography, and in‑field mapping.
• Assist with archaeological office and laboratory work.
• Participate in GPS data collection under supervision of a Field Lead or Project Archaeologist.
• Adhere to the safety program and promptly communicate and mitigate safety hazards.

Required profile

• Accredited Field School Certification.
• Ability to travel, walk, and conduct fieldwork for long hours in inclement weather, rugged terrain, and high altitudes.
• Capability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 lb.
• Current valid driver’s license and ability to safely operate a 4‑wd vehicle on backcountry roads.
• 6+ months experience with archaeological survey, testing, excavation, methodology, and monitoring (preferred).
• Knowledge of Collector and Survey123 applications (preferred).

• Hourly pay ranging from $19.31 to $25.49 (overtime paid time‑and‑a‑half).
