Critical Care Anesthesiology Section Head

About the role

Ochsner Health is seeking a Section Head for Critical Care Anesthesiology to co‑direct the Thoracic and Cardiovascular ICU (TCVICU) at its 900‑bed tertiary‑care referral center. The role combines leadership of a growing faculty team with the opportunity to practice operative anesthesiology.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Critical Care Anesthesiology faculty within the Department of Anesthesiology.
• Co‑direct the 12‑bed TCVICU, overseeing care for high‑acuity cardiac surgical patients, including ECMO, LVAD, and IABP support.
• Participate in clinical care, with up to 30% of time dedicated to operative anesthesiology as desired.
• Engage in academic activities, research, and teaching across residency and fellowship programs.

Required profile

• Board‑certified anesthesiologist with fellowship training in Critical Care or extensive experience in Cardiac Critical Care.
• Strong interest in academic medicine, research, and education.
• Proven leadership and team‑building abilities.

Required skills

• Critical Care Anesthesiology expertise.
• Experience with mechanical circulatory support technologies (ECMO, LVAD, IABP).
