Criminal Investigator (Level 1)

About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking a Criminal Investigator 1 to join its law‑enforcement team. Under general supervision, you will conduct criminal and administrative investigations, gather evidence, and support prosecutions that protect Georgia’s citizens.

Key responsibilities

• Screen and investigate allegations of criminal wrongdoing within agency jurisdiction.
• Conduct interviews, interrogations, and detailed reviews of financial and business documents to uncover fraud.
• Obtain and execute search and arrest warrants, maintain chain of custody, and prepare thorough case reports.
• Provide courtroom testimony and collaborate with state, federal, and local law‑enforcement agencies.
• Travel throughout assigned counties and occasionally stay overnight for investigations.

Required profile

• Honest, professional, and ethical conduct.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local criminal laws, rules of evidence, and constitutional protections.
• Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage a demanding investigative caseload with minimal supervision.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for reporting and courtroom presentation.

• Financial document analysis for fraud detection.

• Maintaining POST certification, valid driver’s license, and annual firearms qualifications.
