Controller – Financial Operations Lead

About the role

Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley is seeking a strategic and detail‑oriented Controller to lead the organization’s financial operations. The Controller will ensure the accuracy and integrity of accounting policies, reporting systems, and cash management while supporting budgeting and long‑term financial planning.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee core accounting functions including general ledger, accounts receivable/payable, reconciliations, and purchase order control.
• Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings and reporting.
• Assist the CFO in preparing annual budgets, tracking performance, and identifying efficiency opportunities.
• Manage and mentor a team of accounting professionals, fostering a collaborative culture.
• Coordinate financial information delivery to internal departments and external stakeholders.
• Lead annual audit preparation, tax filings, and liaison with external auditors.
• Maintain oversight of cash flow and bank accounts in coordination with the CFO.
• Administer financial software systems and provide training as needed.
• Develop and enforce policies to ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Controller, preferably in a nonprofit, construction, or similar industry with a budget over $20 million.
• Strong leadership and team‑development abilities.
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. (no sponsorship).
