Controller / Finance Operations Lead - Remote

About the role

Higher Options is seeking a highly analytical Controller / Finance Operations Lead to support the financial and accounting operations of a growing U.S.-based group of hospitality and events brands. This remote, full‑time position focuses on maintaining clean books, interpreting transaction classifications, and delivering clear financial insight to leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Own and maintain accurate accounting records in QuickBooks Online.
• Review, classify, and post transactions with full awareness of their impact on the income statement and balance sheet.
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements across multiple entities.
• Analyze month‑over‑month results, flagging unusual fluctuations and inconsistencies.
• Reconcile bank, balance‑sheet, intercompany, and other key accounts.
• Lead month‑end and year‑end close processes with accuracy and timeliness.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll review/allocations.
• Monitor cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting needs.
• Maintain inventory, COGS, fixed‑asset, and general‑ledger records.
• Support tax compliance, audit readiness, and coordination with external advisors.
• Improve accounting workflows, documentation, and SOPs.
• Partner closely with founders and leadership to provide actionable financial insight.

Required profile

• Strong, hands‑on experience with QuickBooks Online.
• Excellent understanding of financial statements and the relationship between P&L, balance sheet, and underlying transactions.
• Ability to explain the logic behind transaction classification.
• Analytical mindset with a track record of identifying discrepancies and red flags.
• Experience managing multi‑entity accounting and reconciliations.
• High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Self‑starter capable of working independently in a fast‑paced remote environment.
• Clear written and verbal English communication.
• Comfortable collaborating with U.S.‑based teams and stakeholders.
