Controller – Accounting Leadership Role

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Controller to join our New York team on a long‑term contract basis. The role will oversee core accounting operations, ensure accurate financial reporting, and strengthen financial controls across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the monthly close cycle, meeting deadlines and ensuring accurate financial records.
• Supervise a small accounting team, providing direction, review, and day‑to‑day oversight.
• Coordinate audit preparation activities and respond to external auditor requests with organized documentation.
• Strengthen internal control practices and refine accounting procedures for consistency and compliance.
• Maintain the general ledger and ensure the reliability of financial data.
• Monitor inventory‑related accounting activities and ensure proper tracking and valuation.
• Prepare and review balance‑sheet reconciliations, supporting schedules, and workpapers.
• Produce financial reports and perform variance analysis to highlight key business trends.
• Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, and cash‑management processes.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading accounting functions in a Controller or similar finance leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and core accounting principles.
• Hands‑on experience with month‑end close, balance‑sheet reconciliations, and financial‑statement preparation.
• Background managing annual audits and compiling supporting documentation for external review.
• Working knowledge of accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash management, and inventory accounting.
