Communications Officer – UN Children & Armed Conflict

About the role

The Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary‑General on Children and Armed Conflict is seeking a Communications Officer to lead the design and delivery of communications strategies that raise awareness and drive action for the protection of children affected by armed conflict.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement an advocacy and communications strategy in partnership with UN/DGC and NGOs.
• Create and maintain up‑to‑date content for the Office’s website, ensuring it serves as an interactive communication tool.
• Draft speeches, talking points, and public information material aligned with policy and advocacy goals.
• Plan, monitor and manage the communications budget, and supervise consultants as needed.
• Advise senior leadership on the effective use of press briefings, conferences and media interviews.
• Support outreach and networking activities to promote international collaboration.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of information‑integrity risks such as misinformation, disinformation, hate speech and threats in fragile or post‑conflict settings.
• Familiarity with current and emerging digital media platforms, their technologies and media‑landscape trends.
• Professional competence, attention to deadlines, and a results‑oriented work ethic.
