About the role

The Georgia Department of Public Safety is hiring Commercial Vehicle Officers (CVO) to enforce state and federal regulations governing commercial motor vehicles and hazardous materials transportation. New officers will complete a seven‑week advanced academy followed by twelve weeks of field training.

Key responsibilities

• Enforce applicable State and Federal laws, rules, and regulations for commercial motor vehicles.
• Inspect vehicles and cargo, operating electronic equipment at inspection facilities.
• Monitor compliance with hazardous‑materials transportation standards.
• Document violations and prepare reports under supervision.

Required profile

• Certified law‑enforcement experience is mandatory.
• Ability to complete the CVO academy and subsequent field training.
• Willingness to work statewide in various regions.

Required skills

• Operation of commercial vehicle inspection equipment.
• Knowledge of State and Federal commercial motor vehicle regulations.
• Understanding of hazardous‑materials transportation regulations.
