Commercial Counsel – AI Safety & Research Contracts

About the role

Anthropic is seeking a Commercial Counsel for its SPARC (Safety, Policy, and Research Contracts) team. The attorney will work closely with sales, policy, and research groups to shape agreements that enable safe and responsible AI deployment worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, focusing on AI safety, research collaborations, and enterprise sales contracts.
• Partner with Sales and Go‑to‑Market teams to accelerate deal velocity while providing practical legal guidance.
• Develop and maintain commercial legal infrastructure, including contract templates, playbooks, and process improvements.
• Collaborate with Policy, Safeguards, and Research teams on novel AI governance initiatives.
• Identify, assess, and appropriately escalate legal risks without hindering business momentum.
• Stay up‑to‑date on legal developments affecting AI technologies.

Required profile

• J.D. and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar (California preferred).
• Proven experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements.
• Ability to provide clear, practical legal guidance to non‑lawyers on complex commercial matters.
• Interest in AI technology, AI policy, and responsible AI development.
