CNC - 5 Axis Machinist

About the role

The 5‑Axis CNC Machinist will independently set up and operate a HAAS UMC‑1000 5‑axis machining centre. The role requires interpreting engineering drawings, performing in‑process inspections and using CAD/CAM software to produce precision components while supporting continuous‑improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Set up the HAAS UMC‑1000, install fixtures, select tools and optimise machining parameters.
• Generate, edit and run CNC programs using Mastercam or equivalent software.
• Read and apply engineering drawings, specifications and GD&T requirements.
• Design and fabricate custom fixtures and tooling for complex parts.
• Perform dimensional inspections with micrometers, calipers and height gauges and document results.
• Conduct routine maintenance, minor repairs and report equipment issues.
• Operate overhead cranes, gantries and forklifts safely to move materials.
• Provide guidance and training to entry‑level machinists.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent with 1‑3 years of technical training.
• At least five years of machine‑shop experience, including one year of 5‑axis CNC set‑up and operation.
• Strong knowledge of machine‑shop safety and OSHA requirements.
• Ability to read blueprints, GD&T and perform precision measurements.

Required skills

• HAAS UMC‑1000 5‑axis machining centre operation.
• Mastercam (or similar) CAD/CAM programming.
• CNC programming, set‑up and operation of conventional lathes and mills.
• Blueprint reading, GD&T interpretation.
• Precision measurement tools: micrometers, calipers, height gauges.
• Overhead crane and forklift operation.
