Manager, Mechanical Engineering

About the role

The Mechanical Engineering Resource and Development Manager (ME R&D) reports to and supports the Senior Mechanical Engineering Manager, leading the OTECH Mechanical Engineering Department. This role oversees a team of about 12 engineers and is responsible for coordinating training and managing departmental work assignments.

Key responsibilities

• Functionally manage approximately 12 mechanical engineering team members (P2‑P4 levels) and hold them accountable for quality results.
• Support career development and mentoring for engineers and designers within the department.
• Lead department hiring and resource allocation in partnership with Talent Acquisition.
• Interface regularly with Portfolio, Program, IRAD, Chief and Lead Engineers to determine staffing needs and stay current on trends.
• Develop, execute, and maintain departmental training programs and evaluate their effectiveness.
• Review progress and results of team work, prepare reports and communicate outcomes to leadership.
• Support occasional travel requirements and perform additional duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Ocean Engineering.
• 10+ years of practical experience supporting mechanical engineering tasks, including individual contributor or management roles.
• 3+ years of functional engineering management experience.
• Experience supporting government programs and mentoring engineers.
• Strong written and oral communication skills for documenting and presenting engineering issues.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
