Clinical/Medical Laboratory Scientist – Part Time

About the role

The Clinical/Medical Laboratory Scientist provides specimen processing, performs laboratory tests, and ensures accurate diagnostic data for patient care. This part‑time position supports Ochsner Baptist’s commitment to quality, safety, and innovation in a fast‑paced clinical environment.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and prepare specimens, perform routine and specialized laboratory testing, and calculate results for diagnosis and treatment.
• Conduct quality control, instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration to maintain accuracy and precision.
• Perform phlebotomy as needed and document all procedures while protecting patient confidentiality.
• Assist with inventory management, data entry, and support performance‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Current state license (or temporary license) as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist‑Generalist or Specialist.
• ASCP certification as a Medical Technologist and compliance with CLIA and CAP requirements.

Required skills

• Laboratory testing and analysis, including quality control and instrument troubleshooting.
• Phlebotomy procedures.
• Computer data entry and proficiency with Windows‑style applications.
