Civil Designer - Land Development

About the role

At Davis, Bowen & Friedel, Inc. (DBF), Civil Designers support the creation of infrastructure designs that improve community quality of life. The role focuses on land development projects, including water, wastewater, stormwater, and roadway design, and requires reviewing technical drawings and preparing construction documents.

Key responsibilities

• Utilize design software and computer‑aided drafting to plan and permit water, sanitary sewer, roadway, streetscape, and stormwater projects.
• Perform civil design analysis, calculations, and incorporate survey data, jurisdiction codes, and project documentation into designs.
• Prepare correspondence, cost estimates, and bid documents for clients.
• Conduct field activities such as observing existing conditions and taking verification measurements.
• Modify designs based on feedback and provide timely technical assistance.

Required profile

• Detail‑oriented with strong attention to detail.
• Client‑focused, responding to client needs promptly.
• Effective communicator, able to convey ideas clearly and listen actively.
• Critical thinker capable of problem‑solving in a fast‑paced environment.

Required skills

• Two‑ or four‑year degree in civil engineering.
• Minimum two years of civil/site design experience, including grading, drainage, utilities, and erosion control for residential and commercial projects.
