About the role
The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is seeking a senior leader to head its Communications Branch within the Financing and Outreach Division at UN Headquarters in New York. Reporting to the Director of the Division, the incumbent will shape and execute global communications strategies that advance OCHA’s humanitarian mandate.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and strategically guide the activities of communication sections and units to ensure alignment with organisational objectives.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy that enhances understanding of OCHA’s work, drives engagement and builds support among target audiences.
- Coordinate cross‑functional workstreams such as digital communications, media relations, outreach campaigns and partnerships, and liaise with other UN entities and external partners.
- Chair the Inter‑Agency Standing Committee communications group on a rotating basis.
- Review and optimise the global communications workforce to ensure it is fit for purpose.
- Advise senior management on strategic, crisis communications and reputational risk.
- Oversee the implementation of communications policy, guidance and training, ensuring compliance with data protection, information security and responsible use of digital and AI technologies.
- Lead internal communications messaging and content creation, including narratives on complex and crisis‑driven issues.
