Chief Estimator

About the role

C.A.C. Industries, a growing heavy/civil construction contractor in New York City, is seeking a Chief Estimator to lead its estimating department in Long Island City, Queens. Reporting to the COO, you will drive accurate cost control, develop competitive bids, and collaborate across departments to ensure successful project execution.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the estimating department for hard bids, negotiated work, and design‑build opportunities.
• Train, develop, and coach the estimating team to meet departmental and project needs.
• Participate in business development and provide feedback on potential projects.
• Utilize HCSS HeavyBid, BlueBeam, B2W Estimate, and related tools for cost estimation and project planning.
• Lead internal estimating strategy sessions, manage the bid calendar, and conduct bid reviews.
• Maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.
• Provide leadership on bid day, reviewing subcontractor quotes and selecting competitive partners.
• Guide final bid pricing decisions, focusing on profitability and competitiveness.
• Offer insights on post‑bid buyouts, cost savings, and value engineering.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 15‑20+ years in estimating or construction project management, especially heavy/highway, civil site work, and public works in NYC.
• Proven leadership experience mentoring high‑performing teams.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Strong analytical, negotiation, and organizational abilities.
