Cash Posting Specialist – Patient Financial Services

About the role

The Cash Posting Specialist supports the Patient Financial Services department by ensuring that all patient payments are posted accurately and promptly to the accounting system. This role helps maintain correct account balances according to each patient’s insurance status.

Key responsibilities

• Process multiple daily batches of payments from government entities, commercial insurers, businesses, and individuals.
• Validate that payments are received in the bank, check for duplicates, and balance each batch to the penny before posting.
• Post transactions exactly as they appear on supporting documents such as Explanation of Benefits (EOB) or Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA).
• Research and resolve over‑payments, under‑payments, recoupments, offsets, and other complex transactions.
• Perform peer reviews of batches completed by other team members and suggest process improvements.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of experience posting transactions to an accounting system.
• At least 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting, familiar with billing, collections, and payment posting workflows.

Required skills

• Proficiency with spreadsheet software (Excel, OpenOffice, Google Sheets).
• Proficiency with word processing software (Word, OpenOffice Writer, Google Docs).
• Ability to read and analyze Explanation of Benefits (EOB) and Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA).
• Basic knowledge of general ledger postings and accounting principles.
