Buyer I – Procurement Specialist

About the role

Atkore is seeking a Buyer I to join its Houston plant. Reporting to the Production Control Manager, the buyer will drive supply‑chain processes, manage material replenishment, and support cost‑reduction initiatives across the manufacturing operation.

Key responsibilities

• Support on‑time customer delivery and achieve inventory turn targets.
• Solicit competitive proposals, evaluate RFQs, create purchase orders, and expedite changes.
• Reconcile pending invoices and maintain master file records.
• Maintain accurate order processing, including DoA, GL accuracy, and data entry.
• Participate in strategic sourcing decisions aligned with corporate goals.
• Oversee MRO purchasing activities and supplier‑managed inventories.
• Perform root‑cause analysis on issues and implement corrective actions.
• Collaborate with Quality, Logistics, Finance, and Manufacturing to secure best pricing, quality, and delivery.
• Develop and monitor standard costs for raw materials.
• Manage ad‑hoc projects and support MRP system implementation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a business discipline or equivalent experience.
• Less than one year of procurement experience in an industrial environment.
• Strong negotiation skills within a supply‑chain context.
• Ability to work onsite in Houston, TX, without employer sponsorship.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Experience using JDE or Oracle procurement modules.
• Familiarity with inventory control software and manufacturing equipment systems.
