Boilermaker – Steel Structure Construction

About the role

The Boilermaker will construct iron and steel structures to specifications, working alongside the mechanical department in an industrial plant. The role involves a variety of projects within the DCD Mechanical Division, including bolting, dismantling and servicing industrial equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Read blueprints and specifications to determine material quantities, locations and sizes.
• Fabricate, rig, and install steel columns, beams and girders using bolts, rivets and welding.
• Hoist equipment and tools with rigging, bull rigs or cranes and verify alignment with laser or plumb tools.
• Perform cutting, bending and welding of steel components on boilers, exchangers, towers and vessels.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years experience as a Boilermaker, Boilermaker Helper or comparable ironworker role.
• Ability to read and interpret IFC drawings, craft specifications and engineering change notices.
• Knowledge of safe rigging practices, bolting procedures, torque‑tension concepts and required PPE.

Required skills

• Blueprint and drawing interpretation.
• Rigging and hoisting with cranes, bull rigs and JLG man baskets.
• Bolting, torque wrench and torque gun operation.
• Welding (MIG, stick, gas) and cutting torch use.
• Use of specialty tools such as magnetic drills, Hogan drills and Skidmore torque tools.
