Benefit Verification Technician (Pharmacy)

About the role

AON Pharmacy is hiring a Benefit Verification Technician. The role covers insurance verification, specialty pharmacy referrals, claims resolution and pharmacy call center communication, working within a fast-paced, multi-site environment. Pay range is $16.00 - $30.21.

Key responsibilities

• Verify private, Medicaid and Medicare insurance coverages, including VA, IHS and other programs, and complete patient facility verifications (hospital, hospice, rehab, skilled nursing, etc.) to determine medication coverage.
• Verify patient eligibility to use AON Pharmacy via a test claim, then refer prescriptions to the Prior Authorization or Financial Assistance teams and offer manufacturer copay cards to commercial payors.
• Determine network coverage for specialty oncology and hematology medications, identify the dispensing pharmacy, inform patients and notify nursing staff, and document referrals in the EMR.
• Resolve claims issues, including obtaining limited distribution overrides, explaining plan structures and financial responsibility, and handling COB coverage and outside pharmacy submission problems.
• Provide clear, courteous and timely customer service on the phone, act as a liaison between teams, and reply to team emails promptly.
• Follow local, state and federal guidelines, SOPs and accreditation standards, complete compliance training, maintain continuing education, protect patient and employee information under HIPAA, and perform other assigned duties.

Required profile

• High school education, GED or equivalent.
• Active, unrestricted pharmacy technician permit in the state of residence; willing to obtain a Florida permit if applicable.
• Two years' experience as a pharmacy technician in specialty, retail, mail order or hospital pharmacy.
• Ability to work remotely when required, in a fast-paced, multi-site setting, with occasional overtime and weekend shifts possible.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Good command of English; second language is an asset.
• Detail-oriented, critical thinker, good listener and strong customer focus.
