Behavioral Health Counselor (Part‑Time) – Georgia DCS

About the role

The Department of Community Supervision is seeking compassionate counselors to support individuals under probation or parole supervision in the Bell‑Forsyth Circuit. This part‑time position focuses on prevention, behavior modification, and helping clients achieve successful outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Counsel individuals under supervision in individual and group sessions, emphasizing prevention and behavior modification.
• Act as an advocate to coordinate services such as employment, housing, education, mental health, life skills, and substance‑use treatment.
• Collect information through assessments, interviews, observations, and random drug screenings.
• Develop, implement, and monitor treatment plans, maintaining confidentiality of all records.
• Prepare and maintain case notes, treatment records, and reports.
• Facilitate substance‑use and cognitive programming; travel may be required for training, court appearances, or group sessions at other locations.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution OR certification as an addiction counselor from the Georgia Addiction Counselors Association (GACA) or equivalent.
• Preference for candidates with at least one year of individual or group counseling experience for substance‑abuse clients.
• Experience facilitating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy classes is a plus.
• Professional credential such as Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CADC/CAC), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) is preferred.
