Backend Software Engineer – Performance Team

About the role

We are looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join Clay’s Performance team. You will tackle critical scaling challenges, improve the throughput and reliability of our core services, and help our customers execute growth ideas faster.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze system behavior to identify and eliminate performance bottlenecks.
• Define, collect, and monitor meaningful performance metrics across services.
• Advise engineering teams on designing scalable and high-performance features.
• Implement solutions such as sharding PostgreSQL and Redis, decomposing ECS tasks, and resolving Node.js event-loop blockages.

Required profile

• Results-oriented mindset with a strong bias toward impact.
• Proven experience optimizing API latency.
• Hands-on experience with SQL databases, especially PostgreSQL.
• Background in performance-focused roles, including query optimization and schema design for relational and distributed search engines.
