Automotive Worker

About the role

The Automotive Worker performs routine maintenance, preventive maintenance, repairs and modifications under the direct supervision of a Mechanic at the Red River Army Depot. Work is done in a loud, noisy shop environment where mechanical equipment is operated.

Key responsibilities

• Adjust brakes, replace or service batteries, rotate tires, replace windshield wipers and similar minor parts
• Assist on major overhaul jobs by disassembling and cleaning parts, repairing components such as generators and water pumps, and replacing thermostats, electrical wiring and other items
• Replace engine, transmission and differential fluids; check, clean and replace plugs, oil and air filters
• May assist with basic structural repair, fabrication of small assemblies, electrical wiring and removal/installation of access panels, components and accessories
• Remove inspection plates, panels, cowling, engine covers and floor boards to gain access, then replace them when work is done
• Furnish materials, tools and supplies to the mechanic, lift and hold materials, and clean parts with solvents
• Fill fuel tanks, cells and oil reservoirs, lubricate with a grease gun, wash and clean equipment, and may transport equipment to be serviced

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED
• At least one year of wheel or track vehicle repair experience
• Valid driver's license
• Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials; US citizenship required for this location
• Must be able to read, write and speak English
• Available to work any shift, including weekends and other hours as needed
• Physical demands: standing and bending for long periods, pushing and testing vehicles, lifting up to 50 pounds, occasional safety glasses and hearing protection
