Audit Specialist Intern (Early Careers)

About the role

Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC) offers a ten-week paid internship in Richardson, TX, within its Early Careers program. The internship focuses on claims auditing and supports the Claims and Customer Service functions, with guidance from an assigned mentor and manager.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with claim accuracy audits and track the performance of Administrative Services Only (ASO) clients.
• Report monthly potential error findings accurately, then analyse them and rebut them with internal business partners supporting claims and customer service.
• Maintain knowledge of contracts, coding schemes, system applications, COB procedures, pricing and provider files, and managed care principles.
• Own parts of project work and deliverables, conduct research and data analysis, and develop recommendations for real business decisions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and support initiatives that improve business outcomes and the member and client experience.
• Deliver a final internship presentation to department leadership covering the project, results and recommendations.
• Keep company business confidential and comply with HIPAA, Diversity Principles, Corporate Integrity and other compliance policies.

Required profile

• Pursuing a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, audit or a related field; rising seniors in finance, accounting or audit, or other majors, may be considered.
• Graduation between December 2027 and June 2028, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0.
• Available for the full 10-week program and able to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Flex employees must be in the office at least three days a week.

Required skills

• Strong plus: knowledge of medical claims auditing, BlueChip claims processing, quality review processes and ability to analyse problem claims.
• Verbal and written communication, teamwork, and the ability to plan and execute projects independently.
• PC skills, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook, plus virtual collaboration tools.
